249-Unit Housing Development in Killarney, County Kerry Receives Planning Permission

Major Housing Development Granted Planning Approval in Kerry.

In a significant move for housing development in Kerry, Kenmare Plant Hire (KPH) has successfully secured planning permission for a substantial project in Killarney town. The development, approved by An Bord Pleanála, will see the construction of 249 residential units at Cronin’s Wood on Killarney’s Upper Park Road. This article delves into the details of this expansive housing initiative and its implications for the local property market.

Planning permission has been granted for a notable housing development in Kerry. Kenmare Plant Hire (KPH) has received approval for a substantial project comprising 249 residences in Killarney town. The planning permission, originally granted by Kerry County Council and upheld by An Bord Pleanála, paves the way for KPH to embark on the construction at Cronin’s Wood on Killarney’s Upper Park Road.

The newly sanctioned development encompasses a diverse range of housing options, including 117 three-bedroom houses, 18 two-bedroom houses, two five-bedroom houses, and six four-bedroom houses. Additionally, the project will feature 68 two-bedroom apartments, 38 one-bedroom apartments, as well as a limited number of four- and five-bedroom houses. The inclusion of a créche, recreational facilities, and 500 parking spaces further enhances the comprehensive nature of this housing endeavor.

Among those welcoming the news is Mayor of Killarney, Cllr Niall Kelleher (FF), who expressed optimism about the project’s potential to alleviate housing market pressures. He emphasized the significance of this development in addressing the housing shortage in Killarney, where available properties are notably scarce. The introduction of such a sizable development is expected not only to cater to the demand for new homes but also to create opportunities for freeing up rental properties in the area.

Despite initial concerns raised by the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Association regarding potential environmental impacts on the lakes and rivers within the wider catchment area, An Bord Pleanála has affirmed that the development will not adversely affect these sites, including the Caragh Lake River Catchment. This assurance underscores the project’s adherence to environmental standards and regulations.

The approval of this substantial housing development marks a significant milestone for Kerry, particularly in addressing housing challenges and expanding residential options in Killarney town. The project’s diverse housing offerings, coupled with amenities and parking provisions, are poised to positively impact the local property market and contribute to the community’s housing needs.

By securing planning approval for this ambitious endeavor, Kenmare Plant Hire (KPH) is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the residential landscape of Killarney, ushering in a new chapter of housing development in the region.
