Major Housing Development Planned for Ahascragh, Co. Galway: 11 New Homes to Transform Village Centre

A significant regeneration project could soon transform the village of Ahascragh in east County Galway, following a planning application for a new housing estate. C&N Higgins Development has submitted a proposal to Galway County Council for the construction of a residential development in the village centre, located approximately 10 kilometres northwest of Ballinasloe.

The proposed development involves the demolition of two existing houses on Main Street and the construction of 11 new homes. The housing estate is designed to include a variety of unit types: one single-storey detached 4-bedroom house, two semi-detached 2-bedroom houses, two terraced 2-bedroom houses, and six terraced 3-bedroom houses.

In addition to the residential units, the development will feature landscaped open spaces, including a play area, spanning a total area of 1,109 square metres. This inclusion aims to enhance the community environment and provide recreational spaces for residents.

A traffic impact report accompanying the proposal indicates that service and delivery trips during the construction phase will primarily occur during off-peak hours to minimise congestion on Main Street. The peak construction period is expected to employ around 30 workers, necessitating parking for approximately 20 vehicles.

The report also concluded that the increased traffic from the new estate would have minimal impact on the village’s overall traffic flow.

Residents and other stakeholders have until 1 August to submit their views on the proposed development. Galway County Council is scheduled to make a decision on the planning application by 22 August.

In related news, plans have been unveiled for a major new development in Galway City, which would see the construction of over 200 homes within walking distance of Eyre Square. The Land Development Agency (LDA) and Galway City Council (GCC) have released a draft Site Development Framework for a mixed-use project on Dyke Road.
