Citywest Community Centre Delivery Questioned in Dáil

Wednesday 15 July 2026

Deputy Paul Murphy has highlighted the ongoing lack of a community centre in Citywest, despite it being a planning condition since 2018.

The delivery of a long-promised community centre for Citywest has been raised in the Dáil, with highlights placed on the lag between housing development and local infrastructure.

Speaking in the Dáil, Deputy Paul Murphy stated that the Citywest area has been waiting more than 20 years for the facility. According to Deputy Murphy, the community centre was first written into the local area plan in 2012 and was promised again when that plan was subsequently extended.

He further noted that the facility was made a binding condition of planning permission in 2018. Since that planning condition was set, nearly 4,000 homes have been constructed in the area, with hundreds more currently planned at Boherboy. Despite this residential growth, Deputy Murphy highlighted that the community centre has still not been delivered and stated that the local council's capital plan does not indicate any grant funding from the Minister's Department for the project.
