Emergency homelessness accommodation spending in Ireland reached €448.78 million in 2025, representing a 16% increase from 2024, according to newly released figures.
Ireland's spending on emergency homelessness accommodation under Section 10 of the Housing Act reached €448.78 million in 2025.
According to figures provided to Aontú TD Paul Lawless and reported by the Irish Examiner, this expenditure represents a 16% increase from the €385 million spent in 2024. The 2025 total is also more than double the €223.5 million recorded in 2021.
Alongside the rising financial figures, the Department of Housing's latest statistics show that 17,482 people were living in emergency accommodation, including a record 5,620 children.
The growth in expenditure has prompted criticism that state funding is being heavily directed towards temporary, short-term housing solutions rather than the delivery of permanent homes.
