Government Confirms €4.3 Million Funding Approval for Dundrum Community Hub
Thursday 16 July 2026
The Department of Housing has approved €4.3 million under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund for a new community hub in Dundrum.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has been approved for €4.3 million in funding under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) for a new Dundrum community hub.
Minister of State Jerry Buttimer confirmed the funding allocation during a Dáil debate on urban development. He stated that a preliminary business case for the project has been made. The funding confirmation follows questions from Deputy Sinéad Gibney regarding the delivery of a civic, cultural, and community centre for Dundrum village.
Funding Challenges
While Deputy Gibney acknowledged local and council support for the project, she highlighted that some local organisations, such as Imagine Dundrum, face challenges under current central funding structures. She argued that existing schemes have not yet gotten the project "over the line" and called for greater security of funding to match population growth in urban villages.
In response, Minister of State Buttimer noted that while Dundrum is ineligible for certain funding schemes due to specific criteria, the Department remains committed to urban village regeneration.
Other Capital Investments
The Minister of State outlined several other capital allocations recently approved for community spaces in the Dundrum area, including:
- **€146,000** under the Community Recognition Fund to upgrade the Balally scout den.
- **€99,000** under the Community Recognition Fund to upgrade the Patrick Doyle Road playground.
- **Over €14,000** under the Community Centre Investment Fund to upgrade kitchen and toilet facilities at the Rosemount Family Resource Centre.
Additionally, the Southside Partnership continues to implement the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) within the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown catchment area, which includes Dundrum.
