Government urges public to conserve water supplies during Status Yellow high temperature warning

Saturday 11 July 2026

Irish authorities and Minister James Browne have called on the public to use water responsibly as a Status Yellow warning affects 13 counties.

Irish authorities have issued advice to the public to conserve local water supplies and stay safe during a period of hot weather.

Met Éireann has put a Status Yellow high temperature warning in place for 13 counties. The meteorological service warned that the high temperatures may lead to water safety issues, heat stress, uncomfortable sleeping conditions, and forest fires.

Minister James Browne stated that the prolonged period of very warm weather will place additional pressure on people, services, and local water supplies. Minister Browne has asked the public to use water responsibly, follow advice from emergency services, the HSE, and Met Éireann, and look out for vulnerable neighbours, relatives, and young children.

To prepare for the high temperatures, the State's emergency group, the National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management, has issued advice in coordination with key stakeholders.
