Atlantic Technological University has launched a new suite of quantity surveying apprenticeships spanning Levels 6, 7, and 8 to establish a formal career pipeline.
Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has launched a new suite of Quantity Surveying apprenticeships spanning Levels 6, 7, and 8 to establish a formal educational pathway into the Irish construction sector. Developed through a consortium-led approach, the initiative involves collaboration between ATU, industry employers, professional bodies, and public sector stakeholders.
The apprenticeships use an "earn and learn" model, combining paid on-the-job experience with online lectures and practical learning. This structured pathway from Level 6 to Level 8 allows participants to progress to an honours degree while remaining employed. Under the Building Controls Act, an individual requires a minimum of a Level 8 qualification to become a chartered quantity surveyor and register officially.
Quantity surveying is currently on Ireland's critical skills list due to ongoing demand across the housing, infrastructure, and commercial development sectors. Recruitment for the first intake is underway, with the programmes scheduled to commence in September 2026.
