The development would consist of or comprise the carrying out of works within the curtilage of a protected structure, kinnitty castle. The proposed development of 32.2km of bike trail within co. Offaly is part of a 72.8km mountain bike trail project, the remainder being the subject of a planning application to laois county council and the two set of trails are proposed to be linked by an on-road section along the r440 in the townland of glenregan, co. Offaly and baunreagh, co. Laois. The bike trail, approximately 0.6m wide (within a corridor width of 100m) including boundary treatments, signage, and structures for river and road crossings and all associated works, will be constructed in the townlands of castletown, pigeonstown, coolcreen, glinsk, glenletter, forelacka, glenregan and glendossaun, with road crossings of the r440 in the townlands of glinsk, glenletter and glenregan, and the relocation and widening of the entrance to the proposed development on the r421 at castletown. The proposed development will also include the construction of the facilities building constructed in two phases, phase 1 including a temporary building to be used for bicycle hire; the construction of parking areas; a bike wash; the installation of a wastewater treatment plant and percolation area and all associated works, boundary treatments; signage; water connection / supply from a group water scheme, phase 2 consists of a bicycle hire area and associated services at castletown, kinnity, co.
