Cabinet Considers €600 Solar Battery Grant and Support for Post-2021 Homes

Tuesday 29 September 2026

The Government is considering a new €600 solar battery grant for homeowners alongside plans to extend existing €1,800 solar grants to homes built after 2021.

The Government is considering new domestic retrofit supports, including a €600 solar panel battery grant and extending solar grants to post-2021 homes.

Under proposals brought forward by Energy and Climate Minister Darragh O'Brien, existing solar grants worth €1,800 are set to be extended to residential properties built after 2021. According to government figures cited in the proposal, homes constructed between 2020 and 2025 were less likely to install solar panels than those built between 2015 and 2020 following changes to building regulations and the increased uptake of heat pumps from 2021 onwards.

The package also includes plans to introduce a new €2,000 boiler scrappage scheme scheduled to take effect from January 2027. In addition, the changes propose more generous grant levels for solar panels, attic insulation, and cavity wall insulation targeted at qualifying Department of Social Protection recipients as well as landlords.
