Thursday 10 September 2026

The Government has awarded the contract for the long-awaited Dublin Family Court Complex on Hammond Lane, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2027.

The Government has awarded the contract for the Dublin Family Court Complex on Hammond Lane, with construction expected to start in early 2027.

The development, which secured planning permission in April 2024, is committed to completion by 2030 under the Programme for Government. Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan recommended the appointment of the preferred tenderer to advance the contract.

Complex Layout and Facilities

The purpose-built development will feature:

  • 19 physical courtrooms
  • A number of virtual courtrooms
  • Mediation and support facilities

Access to the complex will be split across several streets. The public entrance is designed to face Bow Street and Smithfield, with staff entry on Church Street and vehicular access located on Hammond Lane.

Project Background

The contract award follows years of advocacy from external groups. In December 2019, a coalition of 11 organisations under the 'Courting Disaster' campaign lobbied for immediate funding, drawing attention to archaic conditions in existing family law and childcare hearing facilities.
