Cork's 25-storey Railyard tower to deliver 217 social and cost-rental apartments

Sunday 1 November 2026

A 25-storey development at Albert Quay in Cork will provide 217 apartments across social and cost-rental tenures managed by housing charity Clúid.

A 25-storey residential tower at Albert Quay in Cork will provide 217 social and cost-rental homes managed by approved housing body Clúid.

The development, known as the Railyard, is located close to the River Lee opposite South Mall and Oliver Plunkett Street. Upon opening in a year's time, the block will temporarily rank as the tallest residential building in the State.

Of the 217 flats in the block, 99 have been designated as social housing for Cork City Council tenants. The scheme includes 22 age-friendly social homes situated on the lower floors of the tower.

The remaining apartments are allocated as cost-rental accommodation, designed for tenants whose net annual household income is €59,000 or below and who do not qualify for traditional social housing support.

The tower is expected to hold its position as the tallest apartment building in the country until 2028, when the Land Development Agency is scheduled to complete its 30-storey Parkgate Pointe project near Heuston Station.
