Dublin City Council has appointed Purcell Construction Limited as the main contractor for Phase 1 of the new City Library project at Parnell Square.

Dublin City Council has appointed Purcell Construction Limited as the main contractor for Phase 1 of the new City Library project at Parnell Square.

The cultural and civic development at Parnell Square North is intended to anchor the regeneration of Dublin's north inner city. Phase 1 of the works will construct a new five-storey library building spanning over 6,100 square metres.

Alongside the new build, the project involves conservation and renewal works on the historic Georgian terrace at Nos. 23–28 Parnell Square North, with a complete refurbishment planned for No. 26.

Infrastructure works also extend to the Hugh Lane Gallery, where the 1930s wing will undergo major upgrades. A direct internal link will be constructed through Charlemont House to connect the gallery directly to the new library building.

The completed development is set to replace the existing Central Library currently operating out of the Ilac Centre.
