A planning application has been submitted to Cork City Council seeking to demolish Castlegreine House on Boreenmanna Road to construct a new two-storey home.
A planning application has been lodged to demolish Castlegreine House in Cork city to facilitate the construction of a new two-storey detached home.
The proposal, which has been submitted to Cork City Council, seeks the complete removal of the derelict 19th-century Gothic-style house on Boreenmanna Road. In addition to knocking down the main two-storey house, the developer plans to demolish an existing single-storey outbuilding on the grounds.
The proposed works on the site also include alterations to the current entrance, along with all associated site works and services.
Castlegreine House and its grounds were sold for €485,000 in February of this year. Prior to the sale, the property had remained uninhabited and in a state of significant disrepair for a long period. The site has been noted locally for the Gothic architectural elements of the original house, but it also became the subject of national attention following a criminal investigation. In December 2019, the body of Frankie Dunne was discovered on the grounds of the property. Ionut Cosmin Nicholescu was subsequently convicted of his murder at the Central Criminal Court in Cork in March 2023.
Cork City Council is scheduled to deliver a decision on the planning application next month.
