Fingal County Council's draft Dunsink Urban Area Plan has drawn hundreds of objections over proposals to build thousands of homes inside the M50.
The draft plan for the Dunsink area was published for public consultation between 19 June 2026 and 31 July 2026. The proposed development, which aims to deliver thousands of new homes on lands inside the M50 motorway, has met with significant opposition from members of the public.
Writing in *The Irish Times*, commentator David McWilliams highlighted the Dunsink case as an example of how planning objections can block new housing supply. McWilliams argued that the opposition to the Dunsink development illustrates a broader national conflict between established homeowners and individuals attempting to secure housing in an undersupplied market.
The large number of submissions received during the consultation period underscores the ongoing tension between strategic housing development plans and local planning objections.
