Dublin 'car-free' home buyers face parking permit disputes

Friday 4 September 2026

Homeowners in a Dublin development designed without parking are paying up to €3 an hour to park nearby after being denied street permits.

Homeowners in a car-free Dublin housing development are reportedly struggling to find parking after being unable to secure local on-street parking permits.

According to a report by Conor Feehan in the Irish Independent, buyers who purchased properties in the car-free development are facing significant challenges in parking their vehicles. Because the homes were developed under car-free designations, residents have been unable to obtain standard on-street parking permits.

As a consequence of the permit restrictions, affected homeowners are reportedly paying up to €3 per hour to leave their vehicles in nearby spaces. The situation has led to an ongoing row over parking availability and access for residents living within the development.
