Dublin City Council opens procurement for 647 social and affordable homes

Saturday 4 July 2026

Dublin City Council has launched a procurement competition to build 647 social and affordable homes across five sites in the capital.

Dublin City Council has launched a procurement competition to deliver 647 new social and affordable homes across five council-owned sites. This launch follows a market engagement process and marks the first call-off under the council's wider home building initiative.

The five developments are spread across Finglas, Ballymun, Whitehall, and the North Inner City. The projects will feature a mix of houses, apartments, and duplexes, alongside dedicated community and childcare spaces. The selected locations include greenfield and brownfield sites, former depot lands, and designated regeneration areas.

Preparatory work is already progressing, with early enabling works underway on two of the five sites. Construction across all five developments is projected to begin in early 2027.

This housing initiative is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. It forms part of the council's broader target to deliver approximately 4,000 homes, while contributing to the Government's national housing plan, Delivering Homes, Building Communities.
