Thursday 3 September 2026

A €5.5 million conservation project at No 11 Parnell Square has upgraded the 300-year-old Georgian townhouse to an A3 BER rating, creating a modern shared headquarters for literary and heritage groups.

A conservation project at No 11 Parnell Square in Dublin has upgraded a 300-year-old Georgian townhouse to an A3 Building Energy Rating.

The comprehensive €5.5 million refurbishment, led by McCullough Mulvin Architects, officially opened in early 2026. The early 18th-century property now functions as the shared headquarters for the Irish Heritage Trust, Poetry Ireland/Éigse Éireann, and the Irish Landmark Trust.

The project team integrated sustainable energy solutions and universal access into the historic structure without compromising its architectural integrity. The completed development accommodates the new Seamus Heaney Poetry Library alongside the historic former Dublin County Council Chamber. The project was delivered through a partnership between the Irish Heritage Trust, Poetry Ireland/Éigse Éireann, and a specialist team.
