Electric Ireland to increase residential electricity and gas prices from July 2026

Thursday 2 July 2026

Electric Ireland has announced price rises of 8% for residential electricity and 7.7% for residential gas, taking effect on 1 July 2026.

Electric Ireland has announced price increases for domestic energy customers, raising residential electricity prices by 8% and residential gas prices by 7.7% with effect from 1 July 2026.

The price adjustment is expected to impact approximately 1.1 million domestic electricity customers and 145,000 domestic gas customers across Ireland. Under the new pricing structure, an average household will face an estimated annual cost increase of approximately €255. This average figure includes an estimated yearly rise of €138 for electricity and €117 for gas.

According to the utility provider, the changes represent the company's first residential price increase since October 2022. The decision is attributed to sustained volatility in wholesale energy costs, which have been exacerbated by conflict in the Middle East affecting gas markets.

Pat Fenlon, Executive Director of Electric Ireland, noted that gas prices continue to set the marginal cost of electricity on the Irish grid, which directly impacts the overall pricing structure for domestic consumers.
