The Irish Government has approved a €2 billion capital funding package for Uisce Éireann to expand wastewater and water infrastructure, targeted at unlocking housing development.
The Irish Government has approved a €2 billion capital funding package for Uisce Éireann to expand water services and support new housing delivery.
This ring-fenced funding forms part of the revised National Development Plan allocation for water services. The capital package is designed to address infrastructure constraints in areas where water and wastewater deficits currently limit residential development.
The approved funding will be divided into two targeted streams:
- €1.7 billion is allocated to the Growth Investment Programme.
- €300 million is directed to the Small Towns and Villages Growth Programme.
The cabinet-approved funding must be used exclusively to expand capacity for new housing settlements, with the draw-down scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2030.
Uisce Éireann indicated that this investment framework, which runs alongside its wider 2025–2029 capital programme, is intended to support housing capacity while also addressing broader infrastructure, resilience, and compliance work across the country.
