Government Commits Over €250bn to Infrastructure Over Ten Years in Budget 2027

Wednesday 7 October 2026

Finance Minister Simon Harris has announced a ten-year capital plan allocating over a quarter of a trillion euro to national infrastructure, supported by projected budget surpluses.

The Government will invest more than a quarter of a trillion euro in infrastructure over the next ten years, Finance Minister Simon Harris announced. Delivering the Budget 2027 statement in the Dáil, Deputy Harris confirmed that ongoing budgetary surpluses will be directed toward funding the capital requirements of Ireland's growing population.

According to the updated Department of Finance forecasts presented to the House, the State expects to record a surplus of €6.7 billion this year, followed by €9.5 billion in 2027. Minister Harris stated that maintaining these surpluses is intended to finance long-term infrastructure and build financial buffers against international economic volatility.

Alongside the ten-year infrastructure spending commitment, the Government confirmed an additional €1 billion allocation into the Future Ireland Fund next year. That investment comes on top of an already scheduled transfer of around €4.8 billion.
