ESB Networks has linked grid connection delays for renovated homes to the increased electricity demand from heat pumps and electric vehicle chargers.
According to the electricity network operator, some local power supplies require infrastructure upgrades to handle the modern demands of low-carbon technologies. As property owners renovate older buildings and install high-draw appliances like electric vehicle (EV) chargers and heat pumps, the existing local grid capacity in certain areas can become strained.
ESB Networks has indicated that these local power systems must be upgraded to safely cope with the increased load. As a result, developers and homeowners undergoing property renovations may experience delays in securing active grid connections while the necessary network reinforcement works are carried out.
