High Court Quashes Permission for Dundalk Social Housing Scheme

The High Court has quashed An Bord Pleanála's decision to approve Louth County Council's 44-house development at Lower Point Road, Dundalk, following a challenge by local residents.
The High Court has quashed An Bord Pleanála's approval for Louth County Council's 44-house social housing development at Lower Point Road in Dundalk.
The local authority had sought approval for the proposed social housing scheme on a 1.5-hectare site in the townland of Point. The application was submitted under Section 177AE of the Planning and Development Act, which governs local authority developments requiring an appropriate assessment.
An Bord Pleanála originally granted planning permission for the project, subject to conditions, on 18 December 2024.
Following this decision, residents living in the Lower Point Road area initiated a judicial review challenge in the High Court, disputing the legality of the board's decision-making process.
The High Court has now issued final orders quashing the planning permission. The court also ordered An Bord Pleanála to pay the applicants' legal costs and remitted the application back to the planning board for reconsideration in accordance with the law.
