Housing Minister Confirms Development Levy and Water Waiver Will End in December

Friday 30 October 2026

Minister for Housing James Browne has insisted that the existing waiver on development levies and water-connection charges will not be extended past December.

Minister for Housing James Browne has confirmed that the existing waiver on development levies and water connection charges will conclude this December.

According to reporting by RTÉ News, the Minister has insisted that the financial relief will not be extended past the end of the year. The announcement places direct pressure on residential developers to complete ongoing home-building projects before the scheme lapses.

The measure covers local authority developer contributions and water infrastructure connection fees. Residential schemes must be finished by the December deadline to benefit from the relief before standard charges resume.
