Ireland Records New Daily Solar Peak of 1,258 MW

Ireland reached a record daily solar electricity peak of 1,258 MW on 11 August 2026, representing roughly one third of the country's electricity demand at the time.
Ireland achieved a record daily solar electricity generation peak of 1,258 megawatts on 11 August 2026, according to figures released by EirGrid.
The peak output, recorded just before 1:00 pm, accounted for approximately one third of all electricity being used across the country at that moment.
Minister Darragh O’Brien described the generation peak as a major milestone for grid-scale solar energy in Ireland, linking the development to a record-breaking month for solar generation in July.
The new figure continues an upward trajectory for solar generation in Ireland rather than being an isolated event. EirGrid's previous reporting from earlier in 2026 highlighted a series of records, including the country's first solar generation peak above 1 gigawatt in April, which was subsequently surpassed by a peak of 1,222 megawatts in May.
