Industry group Solar Ireland has announced that the country has surpassed 3 GW of installed solar capacity, marking a milestone that includes rooftop and utility-scale installations.
Ireland has surpassed three gigawatts (GW) of installed solar capacity, according to industry group Solar Ireland.
The organisation stated that this milestone represents a major development for the national electricity system. The total capacity comprises a mix of both rooftop and utility-scale solar installations. Within the rooftop sector, Solar Ireland reported that more than 200,000 homes in the country are now equipped with solar panels. Solar energy projects are also currently operating on businesses, farms, schools, and across the national grid.
Additionally, the announcement highlighted a record-performing week for solar generation in Ireland. Utility-scale solar installations achieved a new peak output of 1.3 GW. According to Solar Ireland, this peak generation was sufficient at certain points to supply more than one-third of the country's total national electricity demand.
These figures were independently noted by pv magazine, which also reported on Ireland reaching the 3 GW PV capacity threshold based on the data released by the industry group.
