Merrion Square tearoom construction delayed until autumn 2026

Dublin City Council expects the delayed construction of the Merrion Square Park tearoom to be completed in September or October 2026.

According to reports, works on the public development are still ongoing as the project enters its third summer. The project, which includes the construction of a new tearoom, public toilets, new pavements, public lighting, and re-landscaping works, initially commenced in June 2023. At the time of its launch, the development was expected to take 12 months to complete.

However, multiple construction delays have repeatedly pushed the timeline back. The local authority had previously estimated that the works would be finished during the summer of 2026, but this estimate was subsequently revised. Under the current schedule, the tearooms are projected to open to the public either at the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027. Dublin City Council has also indicated that an operator for the tearoom facility will be appointed shortly.
