The National Transport Authority has highlighted significant recruitment pressures for the €17.5 billion MetroLink project, which requires 8,000 workers.
The National Transport Authority has warned of recruitment pressures for the €17.5 billion MetroLink project, which requires 8,000 workers to deliver.
Speaking at a Construction Industry Federation (CIF) summit in Croke Park, the chief executive of the National Transport Authority (NTA) highlighted that concurrent major public infrastructure projects across Ireland could create resource constraints and a talent drain. To address the workforce deficit, MetroLink officials have spent the past year seeking engineers and construction staff across Europe.
The update comes after the government approved the next phase of the 19-kilometre Dublin railway project, permitting private firms to bid for construction and operation contracts. First passengers on the system are currently not expected until between 2036 and 2038, with the final cost of the project projected to reach up to €17.5 billion.
