No decision yet on data centre gas tariff proposals
Tuesday 8 September 2026
The energy regulator has yet to decide on a proposal to offer data centres discounted gas tariffs in exchange for accepting potential supply disruptions during peak demand.
The energy regulator has confirmed that no decision has been made on a proposal regarding gas tariffs for data centres.
Under the potential framework, data centres would be offered discounted gas tariffs. In return for these reduced rates, the operators of these facilities would have to accept possible disruptions to their gas supply during periods of peak demand.
As of yet, the energy regulator has not finalised its position on the matter, and the tariff proposals remain under review. This proposed system aims to manage gas demand during high-use periods by incentivising data centres to accept flexible supply terms.
