Northern Ireland's construction output reached £4.9 billion in cash terms during the 2025/26 financial year, returning to levels last seen in the 2008/09 financial year.

According to official figures published by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA), the sector experienced a robust rebound, with overall output increasing by 4.3% in the last year alone. When adjusted for inflation, the annual output for 2025/26 stands approximately 26% higher than the levels recorded during the 2020/21 period.

The recovery was primarily led by a substantial expansion in residential development. Private housing output grew by 23% in real terms compared to the previous financial year, while social housing output recorded a 38% increase in real terms over the same period.
