Short-Term Let Owners Face Uncertainty Over New Register

Sunday 13 September 2026

Short-term accommodation providers have expressed concern over the introduction of a new register, with some fearing they must cancel future bookings.

Irish short-term let operators are facing significant uncertainty over the introduction of a new registration system for properties, raising concerns about future bookings.

According to a report by Seán McCárthaigh in the Irish Independent, property owners utilising platforms such as Airbnb have expressed concern over the upcoming regulatory requirements. Some operators fear that the lack of clarity surrounding the transition to the new register may force them to cancel guest bookings already secured for next year.

At present, specific operational guidelines and timeline details for the registration system remain unconfirmed, leaving providers concerned about how the changes will impact their business operations.
