Solar PV Grant Scheme Set for Extension to Homes Built Before 2025
Monday 28 September 2026
Cabinet will consider proposals extending the SEAI domestic solar grant to properties built and occupied before 2025, retaining the maximum €1,800 grant value.
The domestic Solar PV grant scheme will be extended to homes built and occupied before 2025 under proposals going to Cabinet next week.
The existing scheme is currently restricted to houses built prior to 2021. Under the updated measures, which are being brought forward by Energy Minister Darragh O’Brien as part of a clean energy package, the eligibility criteria will broaden to cover newer dwellings completed and occupied before 2025.
The grant is administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) under the Microgeneration Support Scheme (MSS). Financial supports under the measure are capped at a maximum of €1,800, which is issued to successful applicants once installation works have been concluded. This maximum grant ceiling will remain unchanged under the proposal.
The initiative aims to assist households navigating energy affordability issues and rising utility costs.
