SSE Airtricity Announces Electricity and Gas Price Increases From October
Saturday 5 September 2026
Irish energy provider SSE Airtricity will increase standard variable household electricity and gas rates starting 5 October, citing global energy market volatility and rising network charges.
SSE Airtricity has announced price increases for its standard variable household electricity and gas rates, taking effect on 5 October.
Under the revised pricing structure, a typical electricity customer will see an 8.9% increase, representing an extra €3.31 per week or €0.47 per day. Gas bills will rise by 9.3%, which is equivalent to €2.67 per week or €0.38 per day. For households on dual fuel plans, average bills will increase by 9.1%, representing an additional €5.99 per week or approximately €0.85 per day.
While electricity standing charges are set to rise by 6.1%, there will be no change to gas standing charges.
The provider attributed the price adjustments to ongoing volatility in global energy markets linked to conflict in the Middle East, alongside increased network charges. According to SSE Airtricity, wholesale gas prices have more than doubled over the last 12 months. The utility noted that accelerating the deployment of clean, renewable electricity remains the most effective way to protect consumers from market volatility.
