Fine Gael TD Naoise Ó Muirí has called for the immediate removal of barriers to plug-in solar panels for Irish households.
The Dublin Deputy argued that plug-in solar systems, which connect directly into a standard mains socket, would help households reduce electricity bills and lower carbon emissions. He also linked the proposal to a wider call for a €600 tax measure.
The policy is currently under active consideration, with rules and safety standards being finalised. Reports from *The Irish Times* indicate that homeowners and renters could potentially begin installing plug-in solar panels from autumn, pending the completion of regulatory work.
Additionally, *The Irish Examiner* reported that Energy Minister Darragh O’Brien is open to the introduction of the technology. The Dublin People and The Irish Sun have also highlighted the growing political push to clear administrative hurdles for these systems.
