TII Publishes Luas Cork Post-Consultation Report Highlighting Route Support and Club Concerns

Saturday 12 September 2026

Transport Infrastructure Ireland has released its post-consultation report for the proposed Luas Cork project, showing strong public support alongside concerns from local sporting clubs.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has published a report showing strong public support for the proposed Luas Cork light rail line alongside concerns from sports clubs.

The *Luas Cork Preferred Route 2026 Post-Consultation Report* summarises feedback gathered during public consultation on the proposed 18km-long light rail system, which is planned to run from Ballincollig to Mahon Point with up to 24 stops.

According to TII, the public consultation attracted 1,733 submissions, with more than 1,600 people attending associated events across Cork. The feedback showed strong backing for investment in high-capacity public transport, with respondents prioritising reliable journeys and congestion reduction.

However, the report notes that "careful consideration" is required to address specific concerns raised by local sports clubs, including rugby and GAA clubs, situated along the proposed path.

The planned route is designed to connect key locations, including Munster Technological University (MTU), Cork University Hospital, University College Cork (UCC), Cork city centre, Kent Station, Cork Docklands, Blackrock, and Mahon. TII stated that the identified issues will help inform the next stage of the development process.
