Wicklow/Dublin Uplands Project Seeks Funding Renewal After Slashing Illegal Dumping

Saturday 12 September 2026

The Wicklow/Dublin Uplands project is seeking renewed state support beyond December, having reduced illegal dumping by over 70 per cent.

The Wicklow/Dublin Uplands project is seeking renewed government funding after reporting a reduction in illegal dumping of more than 70 per cent.

The initiative, which marks its 20th year of operation this month, is currently scheduled to finish in December when its existing government funding expires.

Despite the impending deadline, organisers remain optimistic about securing a funding renewal to continue their work. The project has been instrumental in protecting the local landscape, achieving a significant decrease in illegal waste disposal across the Wicklow and Dublin upland areas over its two decades of operation.
