The battery wall is a protected structure (rps 980) and is also on the record of monuments and places (du023-062). The development will consist of the demolition of the existing single storey 20th century extensions and the remains of a brick latrine, the creation of new pedestrian opening in the wall to the yard and also from the yard to the battery, the creation of an opening in the roof of the store adjacent to the magazine for a lift, the conservation and refurbishment of the existing structures including the re-slating of the guard house in natural slate, and repairs to the slates on the other structures, the re-roofing of the ramped entrance, the removal of the existing render and replacement with lime render, the repair and/or replacement of sash windows, the application of appropriate internal insulation to walls, ceiling and floors of the existing structures, the upgrading of mechanical and electrical services, the conversion and construction of an extension to the master gunner's store to create a garden room, the construction of: a single storey extension replacing the existing extension between the existing guard room and soldiers' quarters, a single-storey extension extending across the guard room to the northwest and a single storey extension over the magazine, alterations to the vehicular entrance and parking area and associated landscaping and siteworks.
