Development description
Permission for development which will consist of: the construction of a new twelve bay 110kv gas insulated switchgear (gis) building located entirely within the southern portion of the existing galway 110kv substation. The proposed gis building will measure approximately 700 sq. M. With a height of approximately 15 meters; associated development includes: the replacement of three existing 110kv overhead line towers within the substation with three line cable interface masts (lcim) proximate to the existing towers to facilitate access of existing transmission circuits to the proposed gis building by means of underground cables; provision of a temporary internal access route, and vehicular access gate at the south-eastern boundary of the existing substation site to facilitate construction activities. This internal access route and gate will be removed and the substation boundary reinstated upon completion of the development; improvements to the existing vehicular access arrangements on the south-western boundary of the existing substation, in particular reducing the total number of existing vehicular entrances from two to one at this location; associated boundary treatment to the existing south-eastern, southern and south-western substation boundaries, in particular the construction of a new 3m high wall along these boundaries; all associated and ancillary development and site works including provision and/or replacement of electrical equipment, drainage works, laying of new or replacement cables and the diversion of existing cables
